Many people hate the thought of needles and shots. But for many, injections are a daily part of life. Now employees and visitors to SkyCenter One have a safe place to dispose of their syringes or any other sharp medical devices they may need to use during their workday here at TPA.
Wellness Rooms on the 3th, 4th and 5th floors of the SkyCenter One have now all been equipped with sharps containers designed to safely store and dispose of used needles.
A big thanks to Tom Davidson and Tod Mangon for getting the containers installed.
The sharps containers are designed to dispose of items including needles, syringes, lancets, auto-injectors, infusion sets and connection sets. Sharps also include other devices that can pierce or cut the skin, including razor blades, scissors, metal wires, pins, staples and glass items. All of these devices and materials should be disposed of using a safe needle disposal container.
Some items DON’T belong in the sharps container including medication and wrappers, tape, bandages, gauze and alcohol preps, aerosols and inhalers, paper trash, exam gloves, batteries, cauterizers and non-sharps regulated medical waste, like chemical or radioactive waste
Between 1995 and 2007, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) calculated that 41% of all needlestick injuries occur after use, and 22% occur due to improper disposal or during the disposal process. For this reason, appropriate sharps disposal containers are essential to maintain the safety of employees, visitors and our cleaning crews.
Sharps containers are also available in the restrooms on the SkyCenter 5th Floor Terrace along with other public restrooms around the Airport.
